Who I Am and Why I'm Blogging

I can't be the only 45 year old woman out there who has just a bit of weight to lose, and a few habits to break. I decided that if I share my story, perhaps a whole bunch of us can figure out ways to succeed in being able to look in a mirror and not be vaguely disappointed.

I need to lose about 15 pounds, and become a social drinker, rather than a moderately heavy drinker. Oh yeah, I want to get back to being the generally cheerful person I'm used to, rather than the relatively grumpy person I've become.

The Wii Fit is my best friend right now. That, and reservations for a bucket list trip with my almost 73 year old mother to the Bahamas in May 2010. I have found that I really enjoy doing the boxing workout on the Wii Fit, as well as just about all of the yoga poses. If you have a Wii, let's talk about strategies.
I'll try to post every day. Please feel free to speak your mind, but gently.

All the best,
Lisa

  1. 31 minutes tonight. Not too bad. Of course, the craving for fried chicken, which I indulged, provided a great deal of inspiration to stay at it.

  2. Do you all have Wii Fit Plus? I bought it a couple weeks ago but just used it for the first time today. My dad (and others) might really getting into the rythmic marching one. What I am going to like about the Plus version (only $20 if you already have Wii Fit) is that it has workout sequences already made up instead of doing one thing and then going back to the menu and selecting another thing. You can also put together your own. I am trying to figure out how I can squeeze short workouts in while doing other things such as Victoria's treatments. I am trying to lose weight too but struggle with all the balls I am juggling right now. I just have to plan ahead!...Lex

  3. I'm trying to do the treadmill, 30 minutes a day. That means I'll get to it maybe 3-4 times a week. Can't wait for Spring and gardening. Guess Meditation doesn't count. Wii Fii is out of the plan, and probably wouldn't fit on our TV anyway, it's so old. Lost 20 lbs then went to Texas and gained half of it back (couldn't resist the opportunity to indulge in Mexican food). I have quit drinking, except on airplanes. Good luck to you all. Pat

  4. Lex, we'll look into the Wii Fit Plus. We've been lazily going along with the original, but I stuck it up in Matt's room, so it's a little less "public" than the middle of the living room.

My idea for this blog is to keep us all inspired, but without embarassing ourselves on Facebook.

Pat, 3-4 times a week on the treadmill is great! I'm with you on the gardening. I'm so ready for spring, I became nearly giddy at the sight of a couple blades of green grass. I totally understand Mexican food, and the inability to resist. I haven't met a chile rellano I didn't like.

  5. Lisa, I am moving back into my house in a few weeks. Don't have a Wii fit-does it really make a difference? I need to lose abt 15 lbs as well.

  6. Cindy, I really love the Wii Fit. The exercises are designed to raise your heart rate, but keep it in a reasonable zone. I can continue a conversation while I'm working out (except maybe when I'm doing the plank), but I can feel the exercise working.

I read a study that compared the exercise programs of two sisters, one who went to the gym and one who did Wii Fit at home. There was a couple pounds difference in how much they lost, but the sister who stayed home enjoyed her workouts more, and saved a lot of money not paying for a gym membership. I'll try to find it and link it.

  7. I'm with you guys in the anticipation of Spring, Lisa and Pat. I've been "forbidden" to walk when there is any possibility of ice outside, and it turns out I am allergic to the tread on my treadmill. It seems that walking, buying a gym membership (not gonna happen), or buying a Wii are my only options. I've gotten to be 40lbs. overweight and I'm totally shocked at myself. There is more than vague disappointment when I look in the mirror right now!
