Things are getting easier around here. David has reached what we can consider "normal" for him: bad vision, spasticity and brain fog sometimes. But he can walk and is the toughest guy I know.
We are getting ready for vacation and I'm seeing beaches, miniature golf and kayaks in my future. I'm hoping for a trip to DC to visit family on both sides, as well as seeing the sights. Since I've been lazy about the blog, I'll continue the laziness and post a photo from last year's trip.
More writing, less stress. How's that sound?
Be easy and stay in touch.

Back in the saddle
For the past several weeks, we have been walking/wheelchairing (I know, I made up that word) about three miles to get ready for the 2012 MS Walk in Denver. We had a great time during that event!
In celebration of being in good enough shape to walk three miles without dropping, I bought a replacement Wii console (used) with full intention of re-starting my long-lost exercise regimen. It worked! I had a fine time this morning, and found my BMI had mysteriously dropped from 25.2 to 23.something. I don't even care what at this point. It's below 25!
The push I needed to be really enthusiastic about exercise has come to pass. I'm not technically overweight anymore. Now it's all about getting more fit instead of getting less fat.

Gratuitous
I know I read my blog more than anyone else does. That's cool. I created it to entertain myself, so I guess it's serving the purpose. So...gratuitous. Another photograph, because it entertains me. This was Matt's creation, and he also took the photo. Boy genius. Click on the picture for an enlarged version. It's really neat.

Gratitude
Charlie and Jen came out to help us with projects to make our existence a bit easier. We spent a large part of the day building a ramp from the driveway to the porch, for the inevitable day when David will need a wheelchair to get around. It will also be easier for maneuvering a walker.
I'm so lucky to have a family that chips in to help when times get crazy. It also helps that there is so much talent in our family. We can take care of projects without needing to hire someone. David, Jen and I figured out the problem with the refrigerator, and I am pleased to report that the fridge temperature is currently 35 degrees. Quite an improvement over 60 degrees when I got up.

Know what we need? Pictures!
I am envious of David's blog. He has pictures and I don't (other than the Bahamas photo you're supposed to be checking out on the right there). Time to rectify that. Gratuitous photography!

Got me thinking
My friend, Pat, posted this in FB regarding my other blog post:
Sounds like where you get a wish granted (like weight loss) then you find out it's not what you want at all (due to neuromyelitis optica). I think these types of fairytales were meant to be teaching moments...trying to tell us not to keep asking for so much, or to be careful what you ask for. Maybe they were there just to scare us.

1I've been thinking about this for a while. It corresponds to the story asking "How do you know this is bad luck?" Pat's last comment about just being there to scare us rings true to me tonight. I'm scared about the future, the present, however I got the past licked. I look at our lives, and where we are now, and shake my head. But by heaven, we're tougher than we realize.
I'm thinking about moving this blog slightly more toward bioethics commentary. Feel free to skip that if you aren't interested. I won't be offended.
